Backflow is the reversal / directional flow of water against normal movement and occurs when there is back pressure or back siphonage.
In accordance to the City of Toronto’s Water Supply By-law , it is mandatory for the protection and safety of the City’s drinking water for all property owners to isolate private buildings from the City’s water distribution system, helping to ensure contaminants from private property do not enter city drinking water systems.
In order to isolate buildings from the City’s water distribution system, a preventative device should be installed. If you are a property owner, condominium manager or superintendent responsible for the plumbing activity of a building with 5 or more units, this applies to you. Should you not know if you have a preventive device installed, please contact CES Plumbing to send our investigative team to examine your building.
